Dog Training classes at Animal Medical Center

Animal Medical Center has a training class to meet the needs of all ages of puppies and dogs. Visit our website at www.mypetdoc.com to download brochures. Register for class by calling: 610-489-8982 or emailing the instructor: sthompson@mypetdoc.com.

FIRST STEPS:

For the young puppy that is still in their socialization phase of their development (pups need to be between 8-12 weeks of age on their first night of class), we offer First Steps.  This is a 4 week course that has a rolling enrollment, so new pups can start every week. Class meets once a week (Wednesdays at 6:30 pm) for an hour. Class time will include off leash puppy playtime, a special socialization activity, learning positive techniques for normal puppy behaviors, such as; play biting, jumping up, stealing objects, house training and crate training.  You will also get started with basic house manners; sit, down and come when called.

NEXT STEPS:

This class is offered for dogs that are at least 4 months of age and older, through adult.  Next Steps is a 6 week course that meets once a week for an hour.  Classes are held on Wednesdays, with different time slots offered throughout the year.

The main skills that will be covered in this course are; focus and attention games, sit, down, leave it, drop/give, come when called, wait and walking without pulling. Next Steps makes training fun and enjoyable for both the owners and their dogs, while teaching the owners the tools needed to train their dog to be a lifelong companion.

ADVANCED STEPS: The pre-requisite for Advanced Steps is to have completed Next Steps or a level one course attended elsewhereExercises that are tested in AKC’s Canine Good Citizen test will be the focus of this course and helping handlers become more skilled in using positive reinforcement techniques in training.  Advanced Steps is a continuation of your training journey with your dog.
